Drunk driving arrest made after fatal Virginia crash

On Behalf of | May 4, 2020 | Dui Defense

Police officers likely encounter incidents, such as car accidents, that have multiple similarities to one another. For example, they may see a number of car accidents that happen during the evening hours that are connected with drunk driving. Because of this, it may be easy to make assumptions about the cause of an accident that happens at a certain time. It is unclear what led police to believe that a Virginia man was under the influence of alcohol when a fatal accident happened.

The incident happened at approximately 9 p.m. on a day in early May. First responders arrived at the scene of an accident near an intersection. Reports indicate that a sedan and sports utility vehicle were involved.

An occupant of the van was reportedly ejected from his vehicle; he died at the scene. Though two other people were transported to the hospital — one with serious injuries — reports are not clear about which vehicle they were in. The alleged driver of the SUV, a 32-year-old man, was arrested.

Police have accused the Virginia man of drunk driving and say that additional charges are pending. Despite this, details regarding the cause of the accident have not been released, and law enforcement officers are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them. When police suspect that a crime occurs, there must be sufficient evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt; an assumption is insufficient. Because many people faced with such charges are unsure how to respond to such accusations, they are often prompted to seek legal advice from an experienced professional.
