Virginia man accused of DUI after construction accident

Driving at night can be disorienting in the best of conditions. However, the lights associated with a construction site can make it even more difficult for drivers. Despite this, a man in Virginia is now facing a DUI charge after he allegedly drove into workers at a construction site.

The incident that led to the man’s arrest happened during the early morning hours of a day in early December. According to reports, the man was driving a sports utility vehicle containing two passengers. Officials claim that his vehicle struck a crew of six construction workers.

Some of the construction workers suffered critical injuries but all are expected to survive. Two people reportedly attempted to flee the crash site but were taken into custody by law enforcement officers. Reports indicate that a total of eight people were transported to the hospital following the crash. Though the accident remains under investigation, the driver was taken into custody, accused of driving under the influence.

Despite the DUI accusations, it is unclear what led law enforcement officers to conclude that the man was under the influence. Regardless of the accusations a person is facing, there must be sufficient evidence to prove that a person is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt before a conviction on criminal charges can occur. Because of the high stakes associated with such accusations, most people in Virginia feel more confident in their ability to make informed decisions with guidance and advice from a criminal defense attorney with experience with such cases.
