Virginia assigns demerit points to its citizens for moving traffic violations. Demerit points range from three (3) for less serious violations such as speeding 1-9 mph above the limit to six (6) demerit points for serious violations such as DUI, reckless driving or speeding 20 or miles above the speed limit.
